Emily is a writer who writes for her own site and other freelance work. She does pretty good for herself. She ends up at her friend Jesse's show. He is in a band and on this night she meets another one. After going on a date with him she starts trending. For a little while things are good and she enjoys her time with him, not his celebrity. But after he starts to pull away from her, she hangs out with her friend Jesse. A convenient picture on a popular site makes things appear different from what they really are. It is bad enough that people share their opinions of her with her, but is now affecting her writing career in a negative way. Can she set the record straight before it's too late? And do Jesse and Cory really care about her or the publicity she has created for them. This book is perfect for people who like reading about rock stars but not wanting to read something too trashy. This was a fun book without the vulgarity you might find in other books about rock stars. And it does prove that you can't believe everything you read about celebrities.

Rock Star Girl A Hollywood Dating Story Prequel eBook Jennifer Farwell Reviews

What more could you want? I'm going to go ahead and say not much. This story was engaging, the protagonist was great, though there were times when i wondered if she was being a bit fluffy. Judging by the ending, she wasn't fluffy at all. What could be better than a female that stands up for herself and sticks to her guns?!

I have a very serious love/hate relationship with endings, particularly romance story endings. Very. Serious. Serious as in, they are usually ridiculously trite to the point that they can seriously ruin the story. This one made the story worthwhile. Literally any misgivings I had prior to it, completely evaporated with the ending, squishing me with all kinds of jolly/happy feelings. Jus' sayin'.

Read it. If nothing else, you would have read a story about a female that got run over, muddled through the muck, picked herself up (with the help of a lovely trusted, friend), dusted herself off and kept truckin' to her own damned tune right through to the end and beyond. You go girl, do your thing!
This is the second novel I have read by Jennifer Farwell. While Seven Weeks to Forever is an emotional story of young love, Rock Star's Girl is a humorous adventure in drama and dating in the public eye.
We meet Emily Watts a self made success via her fashion blog and one half to Hollywood's new hot couple (along with Cory Sampson, front-man extraordinaire). The relationships and real world job struggle are honest and nuanced enough to not be dragging or boring. The true shining light of the novel however is the humor and banter that comes from protagonist Emily. She is sarcastic, sharp and smart- the perfect combination.
Emily Watts is quite possibly my favorite Chick Lit character of all time. She's smart, funny, and independent. You don't find that in chick lit much. Really liked the characters in this book and the plot.

Emily is kind of a celebrity gossip girl who is not enchanted by the celebrities she blogs about. If she wasn't making a living doing it, she wouldn't care at all about celebrity news. Then she ends up on a date with a rock star and chaos erupts. This is definitely not your average chick lit. My husband even read this book and stayed up super late to finish it the same day he started it!

(Edited in 2016 to add a few details to my insufficient review of this great book since I was reviewing book 2 anyway. It's even better than this one!)
Rock Star's Girl by J.F. Kristin is set in Los Angeles and shows how the paparazzi can ruin the lives of not only the rich and famous, but those they interact with. This has a definite Chick-Lit vibe to it with a subtle romantic undertone and an amazingly written heroine. Since it was free on and the blurb really caught my interest, I downloaded it. And I'm so glad I did!

I had some doubts about this one because I'll be honest, most of the self-published books that are free for a limited time on are horrible. That's not the case with Rock Star's Girl. I really enjoyed this Tinseltown book about Emily, a blogger and freelance writer who gets caught in the middle of an upcoming rock star's manipulations of the paparazzi to make him look good.

Poor Emily doesn't want to be noticed that way or be the next It Girl. She wants to stay under the radar but can't because after a few dates with Cory the rock star, who at first treats her like a princess to her delight, she's under the limelight and it's not all rosy for her. Then there's Jesse, her friend of four years who she has feelings for and would like to be in a relationship with, but he gives her major mixed signals. Jesse is also like Cory and trying to navigate the rock scene. He doesn't mind using Emily for support and emotional stability. He pretty much strings Emily along, knowing she wants more from him.

I found J.F's writing engaging and her portrayal of Emily wonderful. I'd love to see a sequel or perhaps a series featuring more of Emily and how she deals with the L.A. celebrity scene. I also would like to see Jesse again, even though he doesn't seem to be the best person for Emily to have in her life. I didn't think he was that bad, but more clueless if anything. The big cruel thing he's responsible for is expecting her to be there for him at a drop of a hat. As for Cory, Emily's wannabe Prince Charming, he's a sneaky rat fink and feels he deserves all the accolades and admiration, including romancing Emily even if he has a few ex-girlfriends on the side he can turn to. Cory is an entitled SOB when it comes down to it. I was more a fan of Jesse than Cory and I was hoping Jesse would be man enough to admit his faults and beg Emily's forgiveness. But then again I was thrilled when Emily decided both these men weren't worth the trouble. Rock Star's Girl is a tale of empowerment and that's shown perfectly with Emily.

Rock Star's Girl is one self-published book I would recommend to those who enjoy chick-lit, the celebrity scene and a female protagonist we can all sympathize with who doesn't need a man to make her feel worthwhile.

This was free, but is now $2.99 at and I feel is priced accordingly.
