Mark a rising senator is a conservative politician ,Erica is a liberal not planning to back down to his conservative stance. Yes I like the clash of views and that each person is willing to stand up and defend their point of view, I also like the part where each character has a stereotype view of the other and their view. He thinks she is a bleeding heart hippie liberal. She thinks he is a war mongreling red neck conservative. Very positive read here. No still trying to work out how they got together what they saw in each other. In some ways they were both flawed. He seemed to be an arrogant obnoxious jerk and she was unyielding obnoxious jerk. I can only guess that the author was either pulling a fast one where they found humor in these qualities and assumed the reader was in on the joke or else the author has an issue with politicians and people who are part of their sphere. The author also included a bit of suspense that was a yes. Unfinished Business is a good title for this book.

I loved this book so much. To me it was a fresh, new story like nothing I've every really read. I loved the dynamic of Erica Johnson, a black activist/elementary school teacher whom wears protest t-shirts on a daily basis, and Mark Newman,a white senator/war hero. Their attraction is instant and the fact that they believe in so many different things; she being a Democrat and he being a Republican is the least of their worries. Through the weeks that they know each other they encounter many differences and people trying to either push them together or tear them apart.

I loved this relationship b/c althought Mark was infuriating @ times,he was vulnerable and his love of Erica felt like a tangible thing. He truly loved the person that she was protest shirts and all. Erica loved Mark just as much even when he had that little smirk on his face. This is a book that I'll probably read again. I love it so so much and I highly recommend it.
Erica Johnson is vocal and loud about her politics and her beliefs. She goes so far as to wear them on her clothing -- mostly her T-shirts.

She is escorted from a Senate hearing when she interrupts the proceedings to share her views. But she does find Senator Mark Newman this side of fine as frog's hairs.

Mark Newman is not a man to let a challenge pass. He is a war hero and still believes that there are beliefs worth dying for. So, he is not amused when Ms. Johnson interrupts the hearing, nor is he pleased when she throws his aid back in his face.
Though for a left wing nut she is adorable. And he will see what she thinks when he takes her up on her invitation to come and tell her students why the war is necessary....

What neither one of them expects is the incindiary chemistry that they share. But they try to give the other the benefit of the doubt, as Erica does when she accepts a return invitation from Mark to get to know the people of his home state (and him).

However, they do not count on their relationship being used as a smear to the senator's upcoming re-election.

While I prefered Personal Matters to this book; I did like the book, Ms. Langhorn is a competent and engaging story teller. The characters are solid, though at different times they both made me gnash my teeth, with their dull-wittedness. And I wanted Mark to show more spine with his publicist.

What I liked most about the book is the fact Ms. Langhorne never shys away from the tough subjects. And while discussing the pros and cons, she makes her characters more human. They are not afraid to find themselves in a quandry and admit they were wrong.

I have no wish to spoil the read for others, so I will only say the poisoning aspect of the book for me seemed a cheap play.
Still read it for the two main characters and their story.
I always love taking a risk with authors, especially authors that are new to me. I always feel a sense of trepidation coupled with a sufficient amount of excitement, effectively heightening the reading experience. It’s that unnerving feeling that compels the reader to turn the page, to keep reading, to race to get to the end. It’s the exact feeling that came over me when I read Karyn Langhorne’s Unfinished Business. As a general rule, I love stories that mix politics and romance, even more so if the characters are the total opposites of what they respectively think they are looking for. With Unfinished Business, I’d found my gleaming jewel in disguise.
The story of an unlikely romance blossoming between a staunch conservative Senator, Mark Newman and a thoroughly liberal Erica Johnson begins at full throttle and does not stop. One could argue the merits of finely tuned pacing in this story, debasing Ms. Langhorne’s ability to weave an entertaining and intelligent tale of love and polar opposites but the question is why you would? The rate in which Mark and Erica stubbornly fall for each other could be questioned but it’s hardly worth mentioning because let’s face it, no one truly knows how long it takes to fall in love, especially when faced with of such rousing bantering between the hero and his rousting heroine. It is that electric chemistry that bonds these two, that despite their difference of opinion, there is one thing that rings true, the power of love- and how it makes you do crazy things.
I loved this book because it didn’t rest on its laurels; just when you think that you’ve figured out what Mark is thinking or how Erica will react, Ms. Langhorne throws in a curve ball. It’s a fast paced story with just as much mystery as sensuality, seriousness as hilarity- a perfect balance that had me bemoaning the inevitable end.
If you are looking for romance with a hint of witty foreplay, Unfinished Business is the story for you.
Great job, Ms. Langhorne!
